About the Doctor
Dr. William Carey is a senior hepatologist in the Department of Gastroenterology at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Dr. Carey also serves as Director of the Cleveland Clinic's Center for Continuing Medical Education. Dr. Carey specializes in internal medicine and gastroenterology and liver disease, including the medical management of liver transplantation and endoscopy.
After graduating from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Dr. Carey completed his residency in internal medicine at Presbyterian Hospital in San Francisco. He also completed a gastroenterology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Carey has special interests in biliary tract diseases, drug-induced liver disease, end-stage liver disease, endeskopia, general hepatogia, hepatitis C and liver disease, hepatology, biliary tract disease, liver transplantation.
He is the former president of the American College of Gastroenterology. He is active in many other professional groups, including the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Physicians, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is a delegate to the American Medical Association.
