Dr. Richard Macchia completed his medical degree at New York Medical College in 1969 and trained in general surgery at St. Vincent's Hospital Center. He completed his urology residency at SUNY Downstate from 1971 to 1974. After completing his urology training, Dr. Richard Macchia joined SUNY Downstate Medical Scholl and served as professor, chairman and ACGME Program Director of the Department of Urology from 1982 to 2010.
While at SUNY Downstate Medical School, he also served as Chief of Urology at University Hospital Brooklyn and Kings Country Hospital Center. In 1997, he was named Distinguished Teaching Professor by the Chancellor of the State University of New York.
Dr. Macchia joined the Urology and Kidney Institute at Cleveland Clinic in 2009. Serving only adult patients, Dr. Macchia continues to work at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital. Dr. Macchia, who has achieved many national and international successes during his time in the medical community, is especially proud of the students he has trained.
